It can be hard eating in the hot weather. You’re grumpy, sweaty, irritated, but eating only makes you warmer, so that makes the whole situation even more annoying.
Well, in this sort of sweltering heat I just want tea. Cold, sweet, iced tea.
Tea Plus in Burwood has created a reputation for themselves for their Plant Milk Tea.
Original Plant Milk Tea, $5.80
The idea is simple: take a cold milk tea – which can be flavoured with rose, caramel or whatever the seasonal flavours are – and top it with an Oreo crumb “soil”, and a mint leaf to finish off the look. Like a milo dinosaur, but wayyyy cuter. The result is a super sweet drink that is so adorable that you’ll satisfy the 5-year old within.
Or that has been unleashed, depending on how hot the day is.
If the kitschy and cute isn’t quite your thing, then maybe a classic honey lemon green tea might soothe the beads of sweat away. It’s not too sweet here, which is nice, and I kind of like the way the ice melts and dilutes the drink slightly, for a refreshing end to the glass.
And if you’re peckish, these Crispy Buns – deep fried milk buns that Singaporeans or anyone else who have had Singapore a Chilli Crab would find familiar – might stave the hunger, without bringing on the food sweats. Enjoyed by itself or dipped into a side of condensed milk, this simple but rice childhood favourite comes in small bites to share.
Or have it all to yourself, nothing wrong with that. 🙂
