I love the cold. I mean like, really LOVE the cold.
Which would probably explain why, even into the dead of winter, I’d still go for a crushed ice dessert.
I first discovered Meet Fresh because well, it was open till 11, and I quite like Taiwanese desserts. I’m very much a night owl, and those after-dinner dessert pangs always get to me. Sometimes all I need is just a bowl of silken tofu with ginger syrup, but a lot of the times, it’s about the SUPREME MANGO CRUSHED ICE.
I just love saying it like I’m announcing a Mexican wrestler.
ANYWAY. Because I completely have food ADHD, I got distracted by the poster advertising their new Salted Caramel Waffles, and so hey, why not get that too?
Just. No. The answer is just no. What was meant to be fluffy on the inside and hot and crispy on the outside waffles were really just a stale-tasting doughy brick, and the ‘salted caramel’ tasted like the homebrand caramel ice cream topping that you can get from your local supermarket. Topped with run-of-the-mill vanilla ice cream.
Y U DO THIS TO ME??
Look, I know that it’s not a particularly gourmet place, but standards people, STANDARDS.
Let’s just stick to the usual menu, thank you.
Ahh, my fruity fruity bowl of crushed ice. Pieces of mango are piled onto a mountain of crushed ice, topped with a scoop of mango sorbet, and finished with a drizzle of evaporated milk. Gourmet? No, but it’s decadently comforting without feeling too heavy. There are times when I think the mango feels like canned mango pieces, but that only makes it better for me because then I know that they aren’t using mangoes that aren’t in season.
It’s huge though, so definitely either bring someone to share it with, or your eating pants.
