Eastwood really seems to be buzzing these days. Eateries and shops are popping up like daisies in spring, and I – for one – am NOT complaining.
So today it’s off to Hong Kong Recipe, located underneath Aldi, for a quick dinner.
I’ve actually considered Hong Kong Recipe a few times before when I was looking for lunch spots, but was slightly put off by the MASSIVE menu. I didn’t manage to glean the restaurant’s identity or signature dishes from a quick browse, so I’ve always ended up choosing to eat somewhere else.
Well this time we finally made it in, and after spending ages deciding, we ended up ordering the Shandong Chicken and the Deep-fried Garlic Pork Ribs.
The service was very quick, which was a surprise, since the restaurant was filled to the brim with rather large families. They also remembered all the requests for the condiments – we never needed to ask twice – which was also quite impressive.
The food came without much fanfare, as Chinese restaurants are wont to do. The food was flavourful and comforting, and while the Shandong Chicken was a touch overcooked and dry, the ribs more than made up for it. Luscious, juicy, with just enough gnarly crispiness on the outside, those ribs are worth every penny we paid for it.
And they were still amazing the next day, when we heated it in the oven.
In all, an average in-house dining experience, but definitely on my list for takeaway comfort food.
