Monolids may seem like a very common Asian eye shape, but the truth is, there aren’t nearly enough makeup tutorials out there for single-lidded sistas like us! And before the days of Google, I had to bumble my way through eye makeup by looking at magazine tutorials for blue eyed beauties, and trying to tweak it for my own eyes.
Well, I’ve settled into a quick and easy method for my everyday makeup look, and I’m ready to share my secrets! Easy eye makeup for monolids is just round the corner. =)
My lids are quite flat, but that’s why fake eyelashes are just so useful: I find that they round out the tops of my eyes, and have the added bonus of sometimes causing my upper lids to fold, giving me that doe eyed look. If you’d like these particular colours, I used:
- L’oreal Infallible in Goldmine as a base colour
- M.A.C eyeshadow in Espresso for the ‘crease’
- Physician’s Formula‘s Eye Booster Liquid Liner
- Benefit‘s Bad Gal Liner for the bottom lash line
- Rimmel 100% Waterproof Mascara
- Prestige Eyeliner in White for the lower waterline
I always concentrate on the upper lids because I’m always trying to open up the top lid, and I find that adding too much colour on the lower lid actually makes my eyes look smaller. Also, it’s so important to outline your pretend “crease” higher than you think it should go – by the time your eyelids fold inwards, it takes away so much lid real estate that you can barely see the colours anymore!
